The Silk Trap

The main issue was the fabric. Authentic Kanjeevaram silk is heavy and lacks stretch. During the first few rehearsal takes, the lead actress attempted the high leg sweep, only to have the rigid silk completely restrict her movement, causing her to fall flat on her face alongside the stuntman playing the mercenary.

The Stunt Double's Solution

The production team brought in a professional female martial artist to double for the wider action shots. However, the stunt double immediately told the director that the choreography was physically impossible in a traditionally draped saree. They needed a cheat.

The wardrobe department spent an entire night furiously cutting up the beautiful silk sarees. They essentially created a pair of highly flexible, wide-legged martial arts trousers (palazzos) out of a matching silk material. They then pinned a fake 'pallu' (the draped shoulder portion) and pleats over the trousers. This allowed the stunt double to execute full 180-degree kicks while creating the optical illusion that she was still wearing a traditional saree.

The Handbag Hazard

The wardrobe hacks didn't stop there. The script (as detailed in our upcoming tellyupdates written episode coverage) called for Jagadhatri to use her heavy brass handbag as a weapon. During take five, the stunt double swung the heavy bag so hard that the leather strap completely snapped.

The heavy brass bag flew across the bank lobby set, narrowly missing the cameraman's head and smashing directly into a very expensive, rented glass prop vase. "It was terrifying for a second, and then absolutely hilarious," the lead actress admitted in a recent interview. "The director yelled 'cut,' and we just stared at this shattered glass. For the rest of the shoot, they replaced the brass bag with a hollow foam replica painted gold!"
